Social Network for Dogs
Posted On 2009-08-10 , 5:49 PM
“Dog Networking”
Who would have thought that in the year 2009 our dogs would be talking on the internet through their own Dog Social Network.
My dog is on three of them now. Sometimes she is on the computer more than I am. There are thousands of sites, you just have to find the one (your dog likes).
There are many people including myself who find it easier to be sociable. I have found that I can relate to other dog lovers and through my dog I can talk to people. I’m a little shy.
Our dogs are our life, they are our family and in most ways our furry children. Like moms with human kids, we want to share stories, pictures and anything cute our kids have done. This opens up communication with other people.
When we make our dogs sociable we become social as well. I have met some very nice people across the country and over seas just by joining a Dog Network.
Who would have thought for us as humans to talk to other humans our dogs would have to start the conversation! Our dogs open the door so all we have to do is walk thru. If you have trouble talking to people, put your dog on a network and watch your friend list grow and new friendships begin.
Here are a few sites I recommend
1. www.dognetwork.com
2. www.mydogspace.com
3. www.dogster.com
4. My Dog Space on Facebook
5. www.mightydog.com
THere are many, many more, you have to try them and find the one you like.

Dog Adoption
“Your Getting a New Dog”
There are a few things you should ask yourself before you get a 4-legged friend.
1. Why do you want a dog?
2. Can you make a long term commitment?
3. Can you spend quality time together?
4. Do you want a specific breed?
5. Can you afford health care and general care such as
• Food
• Toys
• Crate
• Training
6. Is your living space adequate for a dog?
7. Does your family want a dog?
Most People don’t think about such things, they just decide they want a dog and go get it.
Picking out a new dog or puppy is or should be a big decision made by all family members.
• Do you adopt
• Buy from a breeder
• Buy from a pet store

Adopting from your local shelter is a good choice. There are many different breed of dogs and they all need a loving home. I tend to lean towards shelters because I have had two dogs from local shelters Bonnie and Missy grew up just fine. Where you get your dog is up to you. Here are a few differences in shelters.
:Dog Rescue and AKC Breed Rescue
These dogs are often rescued from the streets or from euthanasia at municipal shelters. Dogs are often fostered in private homes and advertised for adoption on the internet or news paper.
:No Kill Shelter
This type of shelter does not euthanize except in cases of chronic or terminal illness.
:Municipal Shelter or Dog Pound
More than half of the dogs who enter are euthanized. This is the place to go if you truly want to save a life.
:Breeders and Pet Shops
They have specific breeds mostly purebreds. Some sell dogs through programs with local shelters so the dog you buy could be a rescue after all.
1 in 4 dogs in shelters is usually a purebred.
Once you have found the right dog, the next thing you should do is dog proof your home.
• Put cleaning products up
• Put a lid on trash cans
• Put plants up
• Make sure there are no Choking Hazards
1-800-PetMeds is America’s largest pet pharmacy. We deliver prescription and non-prescription pet medications along with health and nutritional supplements at substantial savings, direct to the consumer. Shop our online store and get Free Shipping on all orders over $39
Lastly, there are so many dogs that need your love already in shelters. There are millions of dogs euthanized each year. Please try to adopt first. Also Spay and Neuter your dog so you do not add to the growing problem.
Be Responsible and Caring
You will gain a life long family member who will give you unconditional loyalty and love.

Summer Time Heat and Dogs

Summer Time Heat and Dogs
Summer time is a fun time for you and your dog. It can also be not so fun if you have to rush your dog to the vet with HEAT EXHAUSTION.
We often take our dogs for granted in certain situations, such as playing or taking them with us when we run errands.
The temperature is cool in the morning but quickly rises during the day. The temperature in a car can easily rise 10 to 20 degrees above the outside temperature making cars unbearable for dogs.
Heat Exhaustion is very serious and can cause stoke or even death.
“Signs of Heat Exhaustion include”
• Heavy Panting
• The dog might appear unable to breath deeply enough to get enough oxygen
• Less than normal saliva
• The skin is warm to the touch
• The dog seems restless and weak
• Your dog might begin to vomit or experience diarrhea
Make sure you exercise your dog early in the day or in the evening when the sun is going down. They should have rest periods and get plenty of water. Dog Insurance is a good thing to have just in case something should happen.
|
Always use common sense when take your dog in the car.
• Allow plenty of fresh air
• Lots of cool water
• Never leave windows all the way up
If your dog shows signs of HEAT EXHAUSTION you need to get him to the vet right away! Before the trip if possible, put him in a shallow tub of cool water. Your dogs breathing should become easier shortly after being in the water.

“Just Remember”
If it’s to hot for you, it’s twice as hot for your dog. Just don’t take your dog with you on hot days.

Pet Insurance

Pet Insurance
First ask yourself:
• Do I need insurance for my pet?
• Would it be cost effective?
• How would I pay a vet bill should something happen to my pet?
The way the economy is today you should consider pet insurance.
Before you decide to invest in insurance always check the details before signing up for a policy.
What is Pet Insurance? Pet Insurance is very similar to human health insurance which offers a range of programs tailored to suit the needs of domestic pets. While pet insurance remains a relatively underdeveloped product in North America, with less than 1% of all pets being insured, European levels of insured pets range from 12% to 50%.
xxxQuickCare Pet Insurance Programs offers accident and illness coverage for your dog or cat and financial protection for you! Your pet is a part of your family, prepare for the unexpected. At QuickCare, we're committed to eliminating the financial stress associated with your dog's or cat's healthcare needs through a selection of affordable easy to understand pet insurance programs.
Why do I need Pet Insurance? Advances in the field of animal medicine have been exponential in past decades allowing veterinarians to successfully treat conditions that were previously considered untreatable. However with these advances comes an escalating cost of veterinary care. It is estimated that North American pet guardians now spend over $10 billion a year on healthcare for their pets.
Consider these facts: One in three pets will need emergency veterinary treatment every year.
Two out of every three pets experience a significant health problem during their lifetime.
Two types of Pet Insurance
• Non-Lifetime
• Lifetime
Non-Lifetime: Covers conditions during the course of the policy year. On a renewal the condition that has been claimed for will be excluded.
Lifetime: Covers a pet for ongoing conditions for the pets lifetime. If a condition is claimed for in the first year it will not be excluded in subsequent years.
Even Lifetime policies have limits such as:
• Per Condition
• Per Condition, Per Year
• Per Year
Always consider all factors before buying a policy.
